Jorge Luis Borges, born in the same year as Duke Ellington, remains one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Fictions is a set of musical miniatures that blends an imaginative chamber music sensibility with elements of tango, chacarera, candombe and zamba (music and dance forms of Argentina and Uruguay), performed by a virtuosic improvising octet led by Chris Pattishall. It aspires towards the conciseness and dense referentiality that are trademarks of Borges' style, utilizing an eclectic range of music and all anchored by the golden age of Argentine tango.

Fictions was commissioned by the Catskill Jazz Factory and will premiere August 12, 2016 in Tannersville, NY.
